Be your own basement contractor.

The best tile money can buy!!!

Find advise about contracting, and building. Contractors, home owners, builders, handyman and the do-it-yourselfer, find the answer here.

Should you hire a contractor the most important thing to remember is to get a binder from the contractors insurance company. Ask him to call his insurance company and have them fax you a binder. The binder  should be made just for you, the insurance company must acknowledge on the binder that this contractor is doing work for you, or the insurance company will not pay you if you ever file a claim on this guy, God forbid anything gos wrong.

Most contractors are not licensed. Only because code enforcement in most of the country does not require it, but contractor licensing is becoming enforced across America. Insurance, bonding, and building inspectors have been the guide to the contractors integrity.

Maybe you are thinking of taking on a job yourself, and saving some big money. That's a great idea, but   a lot of times people bite off more than they can chew. It turns out they find they don't have the time or they realize the job just isn't coming out quite right. When this person has to calls a contractor to come finish the job for them. The new contractor will charge extra for having to fix the job to his standards.  Even if you feel you were doing fine, the new guy will always have to fix things to the way he does it.  I think it has to do with who they learned from, and where they were taught. I feel that no mater how it gets done, as long as it is done right, on time, and is done with craftsmanship, then whats the difference. Right! Well...maybe not. one guys idea of craftsmanship may be the same standard as yours, but the guy across town my not be, Carpenters just don't like to take over where someone else left off. Most of the time the job was left behind with bad craftsmanship, and it will take extra time and material to fix and finish it right. So it winds up what was going to be an easy job turns into a money pit, you cant afford. In hindsight if you would have hired the contractor from the very start you would have saved money. So it turns out are you really going to save money by doing it yourself or lose money doing it yourself.
